“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me….’I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’”

Matthew 26:35, 36, 40

FGMB Sponsors Six Refugees

An incredible story

Louise Marie and her husband owned and operated a “concession” in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In addition to farmland, it included a school, a medical clinic, a church and an orphanage. In 2003 her village was brutally attacked and she was the sole surviving adult along with 23 children from the orphanage. With the help of some Pygmies that she had employed, Louise Marie and the children escaped to Uganda. By making and selling jewelry on the street and begging for shelter in churches, they managed to survive. In 2011 Louise Marie was sponsored by the Canadian government to come to Canada where she started a new life in Winnipeg. But she could only bring 8 of the children with her. She sent as much money as she could afford back to Uganda to care for the children that were left but it was very little. In 2016 another 9 of the children were sponsored by the Canadian government.

What would Jesus do?

When we found out that the remaining 6 young refugees ate one meal of rice and beans each day because this was all Louise could afford to send, we wanted to step in and help. By sending $500 a month we can provide the rent of a small 2 room apartment and food for the 6. Each month they express their gratitude through phone calls with Louise Marie and WhatsApp messages with an unofficial guardian in Uganda. A healthy diet and a safe home gives new hope to “Our 6”, ages 20-25.

We applied to sponsor the 6 refugees and this has recently been approved! They were due to arrive in Winnipeg on April 7, 2020 when their travel was postponed indefinitely because of COV-19. We all look forward to the day when the borders reopen and Our 6 safely arrive in Winnipeg.

Current Needs:

Provide support for rent and food for Our 6 refugees in Uganda. As this money is sent outside Canada we cannot provide charitable receipts

Donate to our Refugee Fund. This money will provide housing, food, clothing, transportation, etc for one year, once they arrive in Canada.
