One Anothering: Living as Members of Christ's Body

The New Testament shares this profound picture of the church: that we are the body of Christ. Each of us are members of his body, and in turn, members of one another. Romans 12:5 reads: “so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another.” The Greek word used here and in so many other passages to describe this kind of relationship between brothers and sisters is allelon, or “one another”. This word is used some 100x in the NT, and the Apostle Paul uses it 40x. Whenever the word allelon appears, it is in conjunction with how Christians are to act towards each other. There are so many different expressions that the members of Christ’s body are called to live out. In fact, some have identified at least 59 expressions of “one-anothering” actions described in the New Testament. While we won’t get into all of those specifically this summer, we want to highlight a few and hear from members of our body who are living out these callings in our community. Each of us are called into the ministry of one-anothering, blessing and building each other up. All these expressions of the community in Christ are held out to be shared together – inviting us to both give and receive them. Join us this summer to realize and represent the many ways we are already joined together in Jesus.
