Feb 11 - Truth Speaks to Power: Justice, Advocacy and our Prophetic Voice

We think of Moses as the mighty prophet leading his people to the promised land. Yet when we read the story of his calling to this prophetic task in Exodus, we see that his first reaction was to ask, “Who am I to do this?” Just as through a burning bush, God reveals his desire to help his people through Moses, God also calls us, his people to help those who suffer and cry out for His help.

Feb 4 - Truth Speaks to Power: Justice, Advocacy and our Prophetic Voice

When we look at the world around us we can feel overwhelmed by the brokenness, conflict and violence we encounter each day. We who have encountered the God of truth have been entrusted with the prophetic calling to proclaim God’s desire for justice. In our English language context we have often read texts like Matt. 5:6 and 5:10 as referring to personal righteousness when the original term is more often translated as “justice” in other languages. It sounds quite different to us to hear Matt 6:33 read as “seek first the kingdom of God and its justice.”
